MAPUA Media Studies Dean Receives Exemplar Digital Educator Award

YAEEHADEMIC Awards is the culminating activity of the I AM 4 ME Digital Summit and Festival by The Lovelife Project for Health and Environment Inc., YAEEHA Network, and Essential Entertainment.
Dean Agapito’s efforts to promote digitalization in educating and positively influencing the youth of the nation were recognized by the award-giving body which advocates solutions to various health, environment, and societal problems.
“Learning is not confined within the four walls of the classroom. It can be achieved even outside through digital media,” said Dean Agapito.
Dean Agapito’s ongoing campaign, the “‘Sang Minutong Salaysay,” is a testament to his feat wherein media studies students are required to create a minute-long narrative video depicting the struggles, culture, and other relevant issues in the present Philippine setting. Videos created by the students are uploaded on the school’s Facebook page to impart lessons to and spark creativity in its online viewers.
Another platform recognized by YAEEHADEMIC for the award is CineMapúa, an inter-university film festival by the School of Media Studies and the Mapúa Film, Arts, and Media Enthusiast (FAME) organization. CineMapúa is one of the highlights of the University’s founding anniversary celebration with a mission to promote values through film and production.
With the growing recognitions received by its students, graduates, and faculty members in different competitions, the School of Media Studies has created a brand for Mapúa as a capable film and art school in the country.
“By encouraging our students to participate in film competitions, the University has been recognized locally and internationally,” said Dean Agapito. “Mapúa is not only a technological institution. It produces graduates capable of making names in the film industry and in the arts.”
Just recently, Beverly Anne Ramos, a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia student, bagged the Grand Jury Prize for Short Film in the 66th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards for her film “Dory.” Raymund Ribay Gutierrez, a 2013 Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia graduate, showcased his film “Judgement” in the 2018 Cannes Film Festival as a finalist under the Short Film category.
Mapúa’s School of Media Studies is offering Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia and Bachelor of Arts in Digital Film. In 2019, SMS will open three more programs, namely, Bachelor of Arts in Digital Journalism, Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Design and Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Media.
Dean Benigno Agapito Jr. is a Journalism graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman. He also took up his master’s degree in Public Administration. He is currently preparing for his final thesis defense in his second master’s degree, Master of Arts in Multimedia. He became the dean of Mapúa’s School of Media Studies in 2017.
